Rating your Wellbeing

How do you measure your overall sense of wellbeing? It’s more complicated than asking yourself if you feel happy because as we all know happiness can come and go in the wink of an eye. There are many indicators of wellbeing. They include: your ability to function well at work, school and home, having a greater balance of positive feelings than negative feelings, having the sense you are safe and secure, having feelings of physical vitality, having fulfilling relationships with others, being part of a community and having the inner resources to cope when things go wrong and the resiliency to adapt to changes beyond your immediate control.

Most of us would like to improve our sense of wellbeing. Cognitive/Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help. What is CBT? It is type of talk therapy that combines cognitive therapy and behavioral therapy. Cognitive therapy is a way of exploring how thoughts, some of which can be automatic, affect feelings and how feelings can promote self-defeating beliefs. Behavioral therapy addresses reactions to challenging situations so that they are not counterproductive. The job of a Cognitive/Behavioral Therapist is to help a person recognize maladaptive thoughts and behaviors and work together with that person (or couple or family) to help them improve their sense of wellbeing.
